DIY Natural Deodorant

By Kira On November 6, 2012 Under Crafting & Projects

The last few months have somewhat crazy around here. We moved not once, not twice, but three times in the last 6 months! Granted each move was a good thing and we enjoyed were we were each time but still it makes for alot of work!! We have now been settled in a permanent location for the last 2 months and are slowly getting into the routine of things. My husband decided to go back to school and started full time back in August giving the kids and I alot of time on our own. This along with my natural desire to keep things natural and make my own products has inspired me to try my hand at quite a few diy gifts and projects this fall. So far we have made most of our Christmas gifts (I may attempt to share photos of some of these after Christmas), started using our own tooth powder instead of commercial tooth paste (I will attempt a post on this at a later time as well), gone back to our homemade laundry detergent and my list could go on.

Today I thought I would share my latest DIY project Homemade Natural Deodorant. It was super easy to make and used ingredients I had sitting in my kitchen cupboard making it super economical!! I got my recipe from Wellness Mama’s blog here. She had two different recipes, I chose the second as it was a bit simpler and used ingredients I had on hand.

Here is a quick photo tutorial for making your own deodorant…

I started out by adding 6 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil, 4 Tablespoons Baking Soda & 4 Tablespoons Corn Starch to a small bowl

Once all three ingredients were in the bowl I mixed them together with a spoon until they were combined.

Then to make using it easy I took our empty Deodorant container, cleaned it out and filled it with the new deodorant mixture tapping the container on the counter and using a knife down the sides as I filled it to make sure it was full and did not have any air bubbles.

Once filled I put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes to set it up. Here you can see my final product.

Then as a added touch I pulled the original labels off and at some point I will most likely add a cute homemade label :-).

What are your favorite DIY products to make?
