Cookie Making A Preschool Learning Adventure!

By Kira On September 22, 2010 Under Cooking

I woke up this morning in the mood to make cookies with my group of preschoolers. So, it seemed fitting to make some alphabet sugar cookies. More specifically M & F cookies as these are the letters we have been working on this month. Cookie making went great and provided lots of learning opportunities! All the kids love helping and taking turns measuring and adding the ingredients (math skills). Then we rolled the cookie dough and took turns using the letter M & letter F cookie cutters from Wiltons 101 cookie cutters set (Check it out in the my favorite product section of my blog). As the kids used the cookie cutters to cut out the cookies we practiced saying “M says mmmm as in Mom” and “F says fuh as in fish” (reading skills).

Once the cookies were baked and cooled we used icing in a decorating bag to trace the cookies (writting skills)

then we each sampled a M & F for our morning snack. This afternoon we will be practicing our handwriting with frosting and cookies again as we decorate some more M’s and more F’s for the kids to take home to share with their families.

I used Wiltons¬† large batch roll-out cookies recipe for these cookies. I LOVE this recipe as it makes super soft sugar cookies with no refrigeration required. Perfect for making with preschoolers who don’t want to wait for the dough to chill. Check out the recipe here http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Large-Batch-Roll-Out-Cookies
